On 12 September 2026, Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello won the Paris Major semi-final against Leo Augsburger and Juan Lebrón 7-5, 6-3. After one hour and seven minutes on Philippe-Chatrier, their fourth final in a row in Paris was a fact.

In Brussels, Augsburger and Lebrón had already shown they could beat this pair. At Roland-Garros they couldn't do it again. The first set stayed close, but a deciding third set never came.

How the match went

The margin in the first set was small. Tapia and Coello needed twelve games to take it: 7-5. For Augsburger and Lebrón, that meant they once again had to come back from a set down against the world number ones.

They had done that before. In the Brussels P2 final in April they lost the first set 2-6, then won the next two 6-3. That win made this semi-final an interesting one going in.

In Paris, the turnaround didn't happen. Tapia and Coello also took the second set, this time 6-3. That put them in the final without dropping a set all tournament.

What went well for Tapia and Coello

For us, the value of this win was in how they closed it out after that tight first set. Against a pair that had beaten them before after losing the first set, Tapia and Coello avoided another third set. The match was decided in just over an hour.

The head-to-head numbers were clear too. This was their seventh win in eight meetings with Augsburger and Lebrón in 2026. The loss in Brussels remained the exception.

Where Augsburger and Lebrón fell short

Their tournament was more than this defeat. In the quarter-final they had beaten Momo González and Lucas Campagnolo 6-3, 7-6. That earned them another shot at Tapia and Coello.

But the close first set in the semi-final didn't give them the lead. After the 7-5, the gap grew in the second set. For us, that was the key step that was missing: going from staying close to actually winning a set. Without it, another upset was out of reach.

Finally

The win sent Tapia and Coello into a final against Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto, played on 13 September 2026. For Augsburger and Lebrón, their Paris Major ended in the last four.
